Cushions – the red lipstick of the home!
Cushions – the red lipstick of the home!
By that I mean a few well chosen, good quality cushions adds a touch of glamour and a “put-together” feel to your room, in much the same way a slick of lippy does for your appearance. Once reserved for royals and the very wealthy, cushions have now become a way of bringing colour/pattern/interest to a room without breaking the bank.
Scatter cushions are an inexpensive way to add a design element to your space, whilst adding a cosy comfort at the same time. You can co-ordinate with your existing décor by choosing cushions to add an accent colour or a touch of pattern in a subtle enough way as to not overwhelm your scheme. Don’t be afraid to combine multiple textures to add interest to the room.
Living by the sycamore only sells cushions with a feather fill inner pad which means they are perfect to do the “cushion karate chop” in the top middle to create that all important “loved-by-designers” crease.
To my mind, cushions can be used in every room of the home – they’re particularly perfect layered on sofas to add interest and comfort, or tiered down from the larger pillows in the bedroom to top-dress a bed. However, I’ve added cushions to dining chairs to bring a softness to a long meal and even to a wicker chair in a spacious bathroom to add a touch of relaxing luxury whilst you dry your tootsies after a soak in the tub!
The standard square size is usually around 43-45cm so look out for the correct dimensions. If you want something a little bigger, go for 50-60cm square. Boudoir shapes around the 30x50cm look and feel just right inside each side arm of a sofa, or tiered down from a larger square on the bed.
So go on, pad out your pad with a clutch of cushions!
